The Big Day

This story seemed to follow a man driving in a volkswagon trying to reach a wedding. It seems that while he's driving, nothing goes his way as he keeps running into obstacles. Both the bride and the bride's father seem to be distressed, so I am left with the impression that the man driving the car was the groom. However, when the man finally reaches the wedding, he walks in in the middle of the bride's wedding with another man.

Who: The bride and the bride's ex boyfriend
What: the ex boyfriend of the bride wanted to stop the wedding
Where: In Colorado
When: recently
Why: Because he still loves her
How: He traveled miles and miles in his volkswagon to get to her wedding in time to stop it.

Story:
Love, always prevails, and that is shown through the story of John Smith, a man who spent his day searching miles and miles for the one he loves, and she began to love someone else.
Smith traveled on this rainy day in Colorado searching for the woman he still loves after they had broken up.

The day started with him hopping into his volkswagon and going on a hunt for the wedding chapel.
"I was very determined to find where she was getting married," Smith said. "I had to tell her that I still loved her."
However, the journey to find her wasn't so easy, it was actually very frustrating.
"I kept getting stopped by little things along the ride, and it was making me very frustrated because I knew that my time was running out," Smith said.
Despite all the bumps in the road, Smith was able to make it to the wedding of his ex-girlfriend, Stacy Jones.
"I had no idea that he even planned on attending the wedding, I was in complete shock," Jones said.
However, Smith was traveling with a goal, and apparently got there just in time.
"I barged in as soon as they announced if anyone had any rejections for the couple to be wed," Smith said. "For me, it was perfect timing because it was my original plan to stop the wedding and show her how much I still love her."
When Smith walked in, both were completely hypnotized.
"I didn't know what to do when I walked in, she was so mesmerizing when she looked directly into my eyes," Smith said. "I know I saw love in her eyes too, and I now have complete confidence that she loves me back."

Portfolio Analysis

1. Name of photographer - Justin Mott
General focus of portfolio (photoj, sports, stories, etc.)- Stories, pictures from travels
List three problems that the judges noted with the portfolio - Don't intentionally go out of focus, Show full faces and bodies, Learn how to build a portfolio better.
List two things the judges like- Nice quality photos, and good point of view
What is your overall impression of the photographer? What did you like or not like?
I liked these photos, and I think he was smart to take pictures of things that are hard to touch subjects on.

Name of photographer - Sam Adams
General focus of portfolio (photoj, sports, stories, etc.)- sports (BMX biking)
List three problems that the judges noted with the portfolio - Too many silhouettes, Be careful with unneeded things in the pictures, and make the subject more obvious.
List two things the judges like- Pictures have good mood, some nice settings
What is your overall impression of the photographer? What did you like or not like? I think some of these photos are really goos, or had the potential of bring really good, but they still need to make adjustments and have a lot of things to watch out for.

Name of photographer - Jordan Murph
General focus of portfolio (photoj, sports, stories, etc.)- Sports and stories
List three problems that the judges noted with the portfolio - Get more detail, Don't go to posed action shots, get real action, and get full faces
List two things the judges like- Good emotion in some moments, and some nice compositions
What is your overall impression of the photographer? What did you like or not like? I agree with the judges completely, in that his pictures started off really strong, but as he went on with the stories his photos just got worse and worse. If he hadn't included the stories he would've had a really strong portfolio.

2.  What did the judges note as strengths as they were critiquing it? The judges noted that he got good emotion shots, he didn't get too much in the picture, and he was very creative with his shots
What do you see as strengths? Do you see any weaknesses? For his strengths, I thought his pictures all had good composition, and very good lighting and detail. As for weaknesses, the only thing that didn't completely appeal to me was the birds eye view group swimming photo because it was very busy and was hard on my eyes.

Briefly describe the process the judges went through in deciding the winner.
The judges chose their top 4 portfolios that they thought were the best, than narrowed it down from their. They chose the true winner from the amount of "clunkers" or bad photos a portfolio had, and how appealing the portfolios were.

Student of the Month Story

Who - Hannah P
What - Student of the Month award
Where - Bowie HS
When - Recently
Why - For being an exceptional student
How - awarded by the administration

Story:
Freshman Hannah P. was recently awarded the Bowie HS Student of the Month award.
She was awarded by the administration at Bowie H.S for being an exceptional student.

Freshman Hannah Porter won the Student of the Month award for the month of April.
“I think I won student of the month because I can balance sports and academics well,” freshman Hannah Porter said.
Porter was not expecting to be awarded the Student of the Month award this month
“ I felt surprised when they announced it on the announcements,” Porter said.
Many excellent students are nominees for Student of the Month each month, and according to Principal Stephen Kane, the process of choosing just one is very difficult.
“So many students at Bowie are excelling at such a high rate, it’s very hard to choose only one student,” Kane said.
Biology teacher David Jones shares his advice with us on becoming a student of the month.
“ I think it helps a lot to participate in class and get to know the teachers well, along with getting good grades. But, it is also important to not focus completely on grades, but to do sports and activities outside of school as well, because that is what’s going to make a student stand out,” Jones said.
Porter also shared what qualities a Student of the Month should have.
“ I think they should be respectful and involved in school,” Porter said.
Counselor Nancy Davis shares her opinion on teacher’s involvement on the Student of the Month awards.
“ I think it is good for kids to have a healthy relationship with their teachers, and have students be positively influenced by teachers and staff because I think it pushes the kids to work harder. Healthy relationships with teachers can come in handy for things like recommendations and college applications, so I think its always a good thing to have,” Davis stated.
Porter shared her influencers for Student of the Month.
“My track coach and teachers helped,” Porter said
Porter shares her advice with students who want to or plan on becoming student of the month in the future.
“ Don’t stress too much, but still try your best. Also, don’t focus on just grades. Keep them up, but try and have a good balance,” Porter said.
When asked if she wanted to become student of the month again, Porter responded with no.
“I want someone else to have a chance to be Student of the Month,” Porter stated.

The Student of the Month for May will be officially chosen on April 30th.

Architecture shoot preview 2

Cubic Houses, Netherlands
Details

I decided to use this photo for details because since I couldn't find any pictures up close really to the houses because they are elevated, I decided to use a picture of the details inside the house. I think this can still be used as details because I think this picture still explores the details of the architecture, just in a different light.

Light

I decided to use this photo for light because I really like the effect that the natural light has on this photo. The light shining through the houses, I think, makes it look really cool and fits in with the light prompt.

Patterns

I used this photo for pattern because pattern is displayed through the artwork on the ceiling. I also think, if you look a little more from an artsy point of view, that the windows could also represent a pattern by the way the windows are symmetrical.

Angles and Shapes

I think this photo is very fitting for angles and shapes because the view that this was shot from, it creates an interesting shape. I think using the worms eye view was a very creative way to shoot this architecture, and it really shows off the unique angles.

Surroundings

I think this photo really displays the beautiful surroundings of the Cubic Houses and the beautiful country of the Netherlands. I think this photo is classified as surroundings obviously because that is what is shown here, and is very well displayed.

Architecture

Guggenheim Museum, Spain

1. Who is the architect (the person who built it)? Frank Gehry
2. When was it built? 1997

5. Is there information on how much it cost to build? Yes, it cost 89 million dollars
6. Is there a reason the building was created or the history of the building itself? There is no real reason that I could find, other than that they chose that area to build it because it would be a big source of income.
7. Why did you pick this building? (write at least a paragraph on this question)
I picked this building because I have always heard things about the Guggenheim so I wanted to learn more about it. I also think that this building looks absolutely spectacular, so that was another reason I was persuaded to choose it. I also have heard that Spain has amazing architecture, so I wanted to learn about and see it a little more.

Eden project, UK

1. Who is the architect (the person who built it)? Nicholas Grimshaw
2. When was it built? May 2000
3. Where is it located? St Blazey, Cornwall, UK

6. Is there a reason the building was created or the history of the building itself? I could not find any information as to why they built it.
7. Why did you pick this building? (write at least a paragraph on this question)
I chose this building because when I visited London, the city had absolutely amazing architecture, so when I saw the name I chose it, but I was not expecting this. Although it was not what I was expecting, it is still extremely beautiful. I think it it very interesting the way they decided to shape these buildings, I find it very unusual.

The Ufo house, Taiwan

7. Why did you pick this building? (write at least a paragraph on this question)
I chose this building because I thought the name "Ufo house" sounded interesting. Although it doesn't have much to do with aliens, the history of these buildings is very weird and creepy. I also think the way these "pods" are shaped are very unusual, even though they were made to be "futuristic".

Cubic Houses, Netherlands

1. Who is the architect (the person who built it)? Piet Blom
2. When was it built? 1977
3. Where is it located? In Rotterdam and Helmond
4. Is it a private building or can you visit it? There is not direct answer, but since it is a living space, I'm assuming its private to the owner of the house.
5. Is there information on how much it cost to build? I could not find any information on the cost
6. Is there a reason the building was created or the history of the building itself? The reason why these were built was to let people live under an urban roof.
7. Why did you pick this building? (write at least a paragraph on this question)
I chose this building because I think its really abstract and cool, and its very unusual. I also didn't understand when I saw this at first how anyone could live like that, and I still don't completely understand. Despite my unknowingness, I still think this is a very interesting idea, and whoever thought of this was one crazy dude.

Sculptured House, USA

5. Is there information on how much it cost to build? There is no information  on the cost, only that it sold for a lot of money, and the mortgage was thru the roof.
6. Is there a reason the building was created or the history of the building itself? The building was created and used as a set for a TV show.
7. Why did you pick this building? (write at least a paragraph on this question)
I chose this building because I thought I should choose at least one building from the U.S, and the name sounded pretty intriguing. Once I saw the pictures of this house, I really wanted to use it, because it looks really interesting and has a unusual shape to it. I also wanted to know exactly where it was in the US, and if it was visitable to me.

IPhone photos warm up blog

1. What is your favorite photo? Either describe it, or figure out a way to post it on your blog.
My favorite photo is a photo of a waterfall and a bridge from the river view taken by Gayle T. in Takachiho Gorge, Japan.
2. Does it seem like all of these images could have been taken with a phone?
I'm finding it really hard to believe that all these photos were shot using a phone, because they're so clear and crisp.
3. How much do you think the apps some of the photographers used impacted the image?
I think, from my experience of apps, that the apps could only help with the color vibrancy and cropping. If that is so, than the pictures are really impressive.
4. List two tips you think might help your own photography with a phone.
Two tips that I think would be helpful for getting good phone pictures are using the right apps to adjust it and not over filtering it; and using an attachable lens to create some really amazing pictures.

Sports Action Shoot

This subject runs straight on towards the camera. This photo was shot by having the subject run straight forward, while the photographer continuously shot. It was not a very difficult shot to get.

This subject runs in a straight line across from the photographer. This photo was shot by having the subject run completely perpendicular to the photographer, while the photographer continuously shot. It was a slightly difficult shot to get, as the settings were hard to get right.

The subject fixes her hair while I continuously shoot. This photo was shot by taking a picture and moving the zoom simultaneously. This was a very easy shot to get, and was one technique that I liked a lot.

This subject runs in a straight line. This photo was shot by having the subject run, then moving the camera at the same speed the subject was moving at, while continuously shooting. It was a difficult shot to get, but I did enjoy it.
